Set near Madrid’s Parque del Retiro, the new 790-room Novotel Convención Madrid is set to become the largest Novotel property in the world when it opens in 2016.
Before Novotel Convención Madrid opens, the building, constructed in 1978 and currently home to Hotel Convención, will be completely refurbished and redesigned, and will feature 2,400 sqm of meeting space, business floors, free WiFi, a fitness centre and an outdoor swimming pool on the roof terrace.
The Foreign and Commonwealth Office (FCO) has warned against all travel to Libya, advising all British nationals to leave the country as soon as possible. As the instability throughout the country continues and the intensity of fighting in Tripoli increases, airlines are forced to continue cancelling flights to Libya.

On Thursday, 17 July 2014, Malaysia Airlines Boeing 777 that was travelling on one of the busiest corridors in the world, from Amsterdam to Kuala Lumpur, crashed in eastern Ukraine. The initial report suggests that the airplane was shot down by a ground missile. Many airlines that travel the same path, including Lufthansa, Air France, British Airways, Virgin Atlantic, Aeroflot, Turkish Airlines, KLM and Transaero, have already announced that they will avoid that path. Emirates Airlines has cancelled flights to Kiev starting 01 August 2014. Also, US Federal Aviation Agency has prohibited all US flights over Easter Ukraine until further notice.

IHG to expand its UK Holiday Inn portfolio with four new properties due to open across the UK by early 2015. Two of the new hotels will be located in London and the others will be set in Cardiff and Birmingham. The 95-room Holiday Inn Cardiff – North, Holiday Inn London – West and Holiday Inn London – Heathrow T5 are set open this summer and the 95-room Holiday Inn Birmingham North – Cannock will open in early 2015.
The Cardiff hotel is scheduled to open first, offering such facilities as four meeting rooms, a boardroom, bar, restaurant, swimming pool, spa, sauna and gym. Guests of the Holiday Inn London – West will be able to benefit from a rooftop open air terrace, fitness studio, restaurant and coffee bar, as well as meeting rooms. As for Holiday Inn Birmingham North – Cannock, the hotel will provide meeting and conference facilities and feature a sky bar on the top floor.

As of 16 July 2014 Emirates passengers can fly from Dubai to Kuwait in only 1h 45 minutes, thanks to the launch of the shortest A380 service in the world. The new Dubai—Kuwait service, marks Emirates’ 25th anniversary of operations to the country. The aircraft on the route provides 399 Economy Class seats, 76 Business Class flat-bed seats and 14 First Class Private Suites.
Good news for Virgin Atlantic customers travelling from Scotland and Ireland, as in 2015 the airline will be offering seasonal flights to USA from Glasgow and Belfast as part of its codeshare agreement with Delta Air Lines.
The Belfast to Orlando service will commence on 25 June 2015 and will be available to Virgin customers between in June and July 2015. Flights from Glasgow to Las Vegas are set to launch on 10 September 2015, operating in September and October 2015.
Both routes will be serviced by a B747-400 aircraft, providing 375 Economy, 66 Premium Economy and 14 Upper Class (Business) seats.

Starting from 13 December 2014 British Airways passengers will be able to take advantage of year-round travel to the Canary Islands, with the launch of a new service from Gatwick to Fuerteventura. The new flights will operate twice a week and are already on sale.
Norwegian is preparing for winter 2014, as the airline announces the launch of new routes to Grenoble, Salzburg, Madeira and La Palma from London Gatwick.
The first to launch on 28 October 2014 will be the two-times-weekly service to Madeira. This will be followed by a once weekly service to La Palma due to commence on 01 November 2014. New services to Grenoble and Salzburg will also run once a week and will both be available starting from 13 December 2014.
The carrier is also set to offer increased frequencies to such popular destinations as Rome, Larnaca and Lanzarote on routes from London Gatwick.
British Airways is to increase frequencies to Newcastle with the launch of two additional weekly flights scheduled for 03 December 2014. The flights will operate from London Heathrow’s Terminal 5 on Wednesdays and Fridays.
Etihad Airways is to increase the number of its USA destinations, with a daily service between Abu Dhabi and San Francisco due to commence this November.
The new flights will be operated by B777-300ER leased from Jet Airways, offering 308 Economy and 30 Business Class seats.
The launch of the service will enable Etihad to offer flights to six USA destinations by the end of 2014.
