Emirates to launch Boeing 777-200ER on Abuja route

Emirates passengers flying on the airline’s new service to Abuja are soon to enjoy increased levels of comfort and luxury with the launch of Boeing 777-200ER aircraft on the route. The upgraded service between Dubai and Abuja will continue to operate daily and will provide passengers a choice of 220 Economy Class, 42 Business Class and 12 First Class seats to choose from as of 01 October 2014.

American Airlines and US Airways update baggage check-in policy

American Airlines and US Airways passengers travelling to their destination with more than one carrier are advised to check the airlines’ new baggage check-in policies. Starting from 01 October 2014 passengers will only be able to ‘through-check’ bags when the other flight is operated by American Airlines and American Eagle, US Airways and US Express or a oneworld® partner airline.

New alliance – Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines

With Air New Zealand and Singapore Airlines entering into an alliance on 25 September 2014, the airlines’ passengers will be able to take advantage of new codeshare services starting from 06 January 2015. The alliance will allow passengers to benefit from daily services between Auckland and Singapore provided by both airlines as well as a daily service to Christchurch operated by Singapore Airlines.

The partnership will also enable the airlines to offer passengers more convenient connections to Singapore from London and Manchester as well as give customers an opportunity to experience premium service on board Singapore Airlines’ A380, Boeing 777-200ER and Boeing 777-300ER and Air New Zealand’s Boeing 777-200ER aircraft.

Four Points by Sheraton to launch in Turkey

Starwood is expanding its worldwide property portfolio with the launch of the first Four Points by Sheraton property in Turkey scheduled for the end of 2014. Located on the Asian side of Istanbul, the Four Points by Sheraton Istanbul Dudullu will be set in a multi-use complex and will offer guests 182 rooms to choose from.

Customers will also be able to benefit from such facilities and features as complimentary wi-fi in public areas, an all-day dining restaurant, bar, fitness centre, four meeting rooms and three boardrooms. The hotel will also offer guests proximity to Sabiha Gokcen Airport which is only a 20 minute drive away.

Qatar to fly second A380 from London to Doha

As Qatar Airways announces the launch of a second A380 on its London-Doha route, starting from this December passengers will be able to take advantage of increased capacity on the route as well as convenient connections with the airline’s Australia services.

The airline’s new superjumbo offers 461 Economy, 48 Business and 8 First class seats. The aircraft is a new addition to Qatar’s fleet with the inaugural A380 service scheduled 10 October 2014.

New Mediterranean services from BA for summer 2015

Good news for passengers planning to travel to the Mediterranean in 2015, as British Airways has announced the launch of new services to Funchal, Seville and Gran Canaria due to increased customer demand. The new flights are set to commence during the summer 2015 season and will operate from London Gatwick. Passengers will be able to choose from a selection of three weekly flights to Funchal, a two times weekly service to Las Palmas as well as five weekly frequencies to Seville.

Icelandair to launch flights to Portland

As of 19 May 2015, passengers will be able to take advantage of a new service to Portland, Oregon provided by Icelandair. The popular destination will be the airline’s 14th gateway to North America, joining existing services to Seattle, Vancouver and other cities.

Flights will operate two times a week until 20 October 2015 and will provide convenient connections to such UK airports as London Heathrow, Gatwick, Glasgow and Birmingham. As part of the service passengers will also be able to book a stopover in Iceland with no additional airfare charge.

Set to open in spring 2015, the new Virgin Clubhouse at Los Angeles International Airport will offer customers an opportunity to benefit from spectacular scenery, unique design and more.

According to Virgin Atlantic, the airline’s 11th Clubhouse will feature pieces by both California-based and British artists. The 4,000 sqm facility will also be overlooking the Hollywood Hills providing the perfect pre-flight atmosphere.

As for the dining options, guests will be able to enjoy a selection of west coast inspired cuisine as well as a variety of cocktails and healthy juices.

IHG to launch two new hotels in Portugal

Portugal is to become home to two new IHG properties – Intercontinental Lisbon and Crowne Plaza Porto.

Intercontinental Lisbon is the larger of the two hotels and will offer 237 deluxe rooms, 78 executive rooms and 16 suites once open. Guests will also be able to benefit from views over Lisbon and Park Edouardo VII and take advantage of such facilities as a fitness studio, 18 meeting rooms and a restaurant and bar. Currently the Tiara Park Atlantic, the refurbishment of the hotel’s lobby and public areas will be completed in phases.

As for the Crowne Plaza Porto, currently the Park Atlantic Hotel Porto, the property is set to open this autumn. Set 15 minutes from the airport in the business district, the hotel will provide a great base for business travellers offering 161 deluxe rooms, 29 executive rooms and 42 suites as well as 11 meeting rooms and an all-day dining restaurant.

BA to introduce new features for iPhone app

British Airways passengers will soon be able to stay up to date with their flights status, gate opening times and boarding information on the go, as the airline is to launch new iPhone app features this October.

As part of the improvements BA’s iPhone app users travelling from Heathrow’s Terminal 3 and Terminal 5 will receive notifications once their gate opens and the boarding process starts. Passengers will also be able to monitor their flight status via the iPhone notification centre, allowing them to save time and data on opening the app.

Location-based notifications will be provided using the new the iBeacon technology, making British Airways the first airline to use the innovation. To take advantage of the new features BA iPhone app users are advised to update their operating system to Apple’s new iOS8.
